For centuries, people have paid attention to such a little-studied natural phenomenon as glow, characterized by a variety of forms: from ball lightning and mysterious night lights to streaks of light suddenly illuminating the earth during earthquakes.
It's no secret that bioluminescence is a fairly common phenomenon in biology. Some species of fish, plankton and other living organisms that inhabit the world's oceans have the ability to glow. However, even where bioluminescence is seemingly widespread, tales of so-called "People-fireflies" never cease to amaze.
Despite the fact that such facts are considered rare, scientists are aware of cases of a mysterious glow emanating from a person or any specific part of his body.
In his book Death and its Causes, the renowned parapsychologist, member of the American Society for Psychical Research, British by birth, Hiward Carrington described one such incident involving a young boy.
According to eyewitnesses, the body of the dying child was enveloped in a strange blue glow, reminiscent of a flame. The people present at the same time tried unsuccessfully to extinguish the "fire". After the child's body was taken away, there were visible marks and burned areas on the sheet.

This story resembles cases of spontaneous human combustion, although in general it should be noted that the phenomenon of glow is characteristic not only of the dead or dying.
In a letter published by the English Mechanic magazine, another strange incident, which took place in 1869, was described, where the main character was a woman whose finger suddenly began to glow for no explainable reason:
“An American woman discovered a glow from the tip of her toe on her right foot when she was about to go to bed. From friction, the phosphorescent glow only increased and spread to the entire leg. The smoke emitted from this had an unpleasant odor. Neither the glow nor the smoke disappeared even at the moment when the woman put her foot in a basin of water and lathered her notorious finger with soap. For three quarters of an hour, her husband, in addition to the woman herself, watched the unusual phenomenon. Then the glow gradually disappeared."
Probably one of the more fantastic stories about the "firefly man" was told by John Mitchell and Robert Ricard in their collection of unexplained phenomena, The Book of Miracles (Fortean anthology Phenomena: A Book of Wonders, Thames and Hudson 1977). We are talking about Signora Anna Monaro, suffering from asthma, from whose chest a blue glow emanated from her chest during her sleep for several weeks.
This strange phenomenon was observed by several doctors at once, who offered a variety of explanations for what happened: from bioluminescent bacteria to "electromagnetic radiation of certain chemical compounds that make up the skin."
From another abstract reasoning about the origin of the glow, it followed that its source was the sulfides in the blood of Signora Monaro, the number of which had increased due to her morbid condition.
In all of the aforementioned cases, people faced with the glow phenomenon were unable to control the situation. At the same time, experiments are being carried out at the Rhine Research Center in Durham, North Carolina, with the help of which scientists are trying to determine whether it is possible to fix any type of glow, both in the presence and in the absence of a person in the room.
And most importantly, it is necessary to understand whether a person can consciously influence the level of glow, or at least control it. To do this, the participants in the experiment are placed in a hermetically sealed dark room equipped with photonic sensors highly sensitive to light.
In the summer of 2012, during a visit to the Rhine laboratory, I had the opportunity to see some of the equipment on which the experiments are being carried out, and even get acquainted with the dataset collected using a computer located outside the darkroom.
In one case, a person who was described to me as related to spiritual practice was able to provoke a harsh response from the equipment, which supposedly happens when the person is in a state of meditation. It is difficult to say whether there was a visible "glow" or not, although modern equipment is capable of detecting flashes of light energy, no matter how weak they seem.
A 2009 study also showed that the human body, especially the face, emits a "faint, almost invisible glow" with varying intensity throughout the day. According to Live Science, “the study has shown that the intensity of light emitted by the human body is a thousand times less than the ability of the naked eye to perceive visible light.
In fact, almost all living things emit an extremely weak glow, which is considered a by-product of biochemical reactions involving free radicals."
Perhaps, under some favorable circumstances, the intensity of the natural glow of the organism can reach a higher level, noticeable to the naked eye, and some of us are even able to develop the art of controlling such a phenomenon consciously?

The American Association for the Study of Anomalous Phenomena has established a foundation that will investigate the phenomenon of glow over graves. Recently, such phenomena have been observed more and more often, and in different parts of the globe. Until recently, they tried to explain them by natural causes, but experiments did not confirm this … From time immemorial, a strange light phenomenon was associated with ghosts

In The Perm Territory, Unexplained Phenomena In The Atmosphere Continue To Be Recorded - Glow, "plates", Ozone Circles
According to Nikolai Subbotin, the head of the RUFORS station in Perm, at the end of September another expedition to the anomalous zone took place. “At night, reaching the high bank of the Sylva, from which the entire Zone was clearly visible, we noticed three rather bright foci of glow approximately above the anomalies Zmeinaya Gora, Central Polyana, Vyselki. We took several pictures with a digital camera, setting it on a tripod and setting a long exposure of 30 seconds. Then we continued our observation. In a few minutes
