A Chinese man who went to the hospital complaining of abdominal pain and blood in his urine was stunned by the diagnosis. The doctors told him that he was a woman.
A married 44-year-old man named Chen from Zhejiang Province, China, visited a doctor who made the shocking discovery. After a full examination, doctors discovered that he had a complete set of female genitals along with a penis.
The patient claims to have had an active sex life with his wife for the past ten years. However, this statement raised doubts among doctors, since they found that his genitals were different from normal. Another difference, by which Chen should have recognized a woman long ago, is the absence of an Adam's apple.
According to a hospital spokesperson, the doctor who received Chen could not even imagine that he would be a woman.
“He was dressed in men's clothes and had a short haircut, so we couldn't even think that there was a woman in front of us,” he said.
Chen himself says that he became suspicious after he found that he was almost constantly feeling tired, and his face and legs were swollen. Worse, he began to notice blood in his urine.
A computed tomography scan, as a result of which the uterus and ovaries were found inside the man, explained the cause of his condition. Chromosome analysis, meanwhile, showed that Chen has two X chromosomes, making him genetically a woman.
Chen also suffers from congenital adrenal hyperplasia, a genetic disorder that causes the adrenal glands to swell. As a result, the level of stress hormone decreases and the level of male sex hormones increases, writes the British Internet edition Mail Online in a fresh issue.
The doctors said it was too late for Chen to resort to surgeons and become who he really is. Such cases in medical practice are extremely rare and treatment is effective only for young people.
Chen is a typical representative intersex (intersex) - people with sexual characteristics of both sexes. So, the Chinese have two X chromosomes, one of which contains a significant amount of genetic material from the Y chromosome. Such people look like men, but in fact, genetically, they are women.
