The unusual phenomenon was captured on video at a time when scientists were filming an unlit part of the moon to record flares caused by meteorite falls from the Geminid stream.
"We saw in the gray foggy video stream a certain ray, somewhat scattered, but distinguishable. Spatially it cut the surface of the Moon at an angle of 45 degrees to the terminator - this is the dividing line between the illuminated and unlit parts of the Moon. After the observations, we will try to see the files in more detail," said Alfiya Nesterenko, representing Novosibirsk State University.
She admitted that what she saw could be some kind of optical effect: "Although in the event of malfunctions of the optics or the matrix in the camera, this effect would be present constantly. And we observed this ray from time to time." An NSU employee said that the famous Russian astronomer and astrophotographer Alexander Yuferev will take part in the research, which will continue on the night of December 15 and 16.
The Geminids winter meteor shower, which peaks between 13-14 December, is the most intense of the year. It lasts for several days, hundreds of "shooting stars" can be seen from almost anywhere in the world. Astronomers call the stream of meteors that showered the Earth these days as the most mysterious, since Geminids differ in origin from most other accumulations of cosmic debris.
The fact is that most of the streams are associated with comets, while the Geminids originate from the asteroid 3200 Phaethon. This is a rather large rocky object, which was previously considered a minor planet, but now most experts are inclined to believe that Phaeton is an extinct comet. This version also explains well the origin of the Geminids - a stream of particles that are ejected from the surface of Phaeton.
This meteor shower is considered one of the brightest. The average frequency of visible meteors is 100 per hour, while there are many fireballs in the stream - especially bright objects that are visible in the night sky better than the planet Venus. Astronomers promise us a spectacular sight this year. For several days, it will be possible to observe an intense starfall in the region of the constellation Gemini.

Is The Mysterious "Moon Cave" In Slovakia A UFO Base?
In the fall of 1944, the Slovak partisan commander AntonĂn Horak was in charge of operations in the mountainous region of the Tatra Mountains. This was the period of the Slovak National Uprising, which was an organized partisan movement of Slovaks and Russians in an attempt to expel the German occupiers from Slovakia. The time was very dangerous, the enemy still felt very at ease and it was only possible to move with great caution, since there was a risk at any moment to stumble upon Nazi patrols. At some point oh
A Pink Worm Was Spotted In A Color Photo From Mars
This rare for those years color image of the Martian surface was taken in 1982 by the Spirit Rover. The original photo can be seen at the link. The anomaly in the photograph was spotted by ufologist Scott Waring, who searches (and often finds) unusual objects in Martian and lunar images. In this case, Waring was interested in old photographs of the Spirit rover, and in one of them he saw something interesting. "A small life form crawled out from under the stone. It is pink and long and it looks like
Humans Will Not Be Able To Live On The Moon, As Moon Dust Causes Lung Cancer
Living on the moon turned out to be much more dangerous than previously imagined. Moon dust was previously thought to be toxic and cause an unusual illness in astronauts, but now researchers say it may cause and develop lung cancer. The image below shows astronaut Harrison Schmitt from the Apollo 17 mission, December 1972. Schmitt works on the lunar surface and uses an adjustable scoop to collect rock and soil samples (paranormal-news.ru). To his spacesuit while collecting samples
A Mysterious Metal Object Of Huge Size Is Hidden In The Bowels Of The Moon
Scientists have discovered on the Moon, in the region of the largest crater called the South Pole Basin, a huge metal anomaly. This anomaly extends 300 km deep into the Moon and weighs at least 2.18 billion kg. "If we take a pile of metal comparable to a large Hawaiian island, enlarge it five times and bury it at depth, then this will be approximately what we found," - says the head of the research team Peter James. The anomaly was discovered during a special NASA mission that
Former NASA Employee Talks About Ancient Mysterious Ruins On The Moon
Ken Johnston, a former employee of the NASA photo service, will talk about what the Americans found on the moon more than 40 years ago and why they kept this information secret. Former head of NASA's lunar laboratory photography, Ken Johnston, will hold a press conference at the National Press Club in Washington on Tuesday to release data on the finding of American astronauts on the moon, which the US government claims has been kept secret for 40 years.
