This strange story was told in a book by the American ufologist David Buer. Something happened to a healthy young soldier, causing him to have problems with memory and behavior, and then he disappeared altogether

28 February 1959 Private First Class Jerry Irwin returned to his military base Fort Bliss in El Paso, Texas. Before that, he had been on vacation for a month and was vacationing at his home in Idaho.

Jerry was driving through southern Utah, near Cedar City, when he saw a bright flash in the dark night sky, and then a shining moving object.

The light from this object was so strong that it brilliantly illuminated the entire desert landscape in the area of the road. Surprised, Jerry stopped and got out of the car to examine the object.

He watched him until the low flying object disappeared behind the ridge and was very alarmed because it seemed to him that it was a damaged plane falling.

Then the conscientious Jerry decided to go over the ridge and see what was there, and before that he wrote a note "I went to consider a possible plane crash, please call the police", which he left on the steering wheel. Then he got out of the car and walked towards the ridge.

Half an hour passed before another car appeared on the road and its driver braked when he saw Jerry's empty car on the side of the road. After reading the note, the driver of this car drove to Cedar City and handed the note to the sheriff, who immediately drove to the area of the alleged plane crash.

Together with his deputies, the sheriff searched all the surroundings next to Jerry Irwin's abandoned car, but no one found anything unusual, much less the alleged crashed plane. But they found the body of Jerry himself, who was completely passed out on the ground among the stones in the desert behind the ridge.

Jerry was taken to Cedar City hospitals, where they were quickly examined and found no wounds on his body. At the same time, Jerry continued to be in an incomprehensible state, similar to a deep sleep. Sometimes he mumbled something that sounded like "Jacket on a bush," but it seemed kind of nonsense.

Only the next morning, Jerry regained consciousness and the first thing he did was ask if there were any survivors of the plane crash. The doctors told him that there was no plane crash there, which made Jerry very surprised. Then he started talking about the jacket again and it turned out that he was asking for his uniform military jacket to be returned to him. However, Jerry was found without a jacket, only in pants and a T-shirt, and no one knew where his jacket was.

Then Jerry began to say that he does not remember anything that happened to him after he left his car for the ridge. Moreover, he did not remember how he ended up in the place where he was found.

Jerry spent a few more days in the hospital for observation, and then he was told that he was just having some kind of hysteria and that it was time for him to go about his business. Jerry left the hospital and finally made it to his base.

But in the next few days, he began to have incomprehensible health problems. He fainted several times out of the blue. Including once he fell to the ground and immediately fell asleep again in the same deep sleep.

The command sent him to undergo a physical examination, and then for additional psychiatric tests. It happened after the second fainting spell, after which he fell asleep, and when he woke up, at first he thought that it was 28 February again and immediately asked again about the survivors of the plane crash.

Despite the fact that the medical staff told him that two weeks had passed since that incident, Jerry did not believe this and he was left under the close supervision of doctors for another week, during which he finally somehow remembered that after February 28 and other events.

In the end, he was released, deciding that he was now all right. But Jerry was not all right, he was tormented by a strong desire to return to the place in the desert where he had left his car and go over the ridge again.

One day the desire became so strong. that he voluntarily left the base and again went on that road. He left the car in the same place and walked to the ridge, and soon went out to a bush on which his military jacket was hanging. It is curious that this place was previously carefully examined by the sheriff and his henchmen, but for some reason they did not notice.

And in his jacket pocket Jerry found his pencil with another note wrapped around it. For some reason, Jerry did not read it, instead, succumbing to a sudden impulse, he immediately burned the note with a lighter. Only after that he seemed to wake up from hypnosis and realized that he had left the unit without permission and he would be punished for it.

Jerry returned to base, where he was hauled and transferred to a less prestigious job. At the same time, he still felt that something was missing in his memory and was tormented by it.

Everything became even more strange and frightening when one day he suddenly did not come to his place of work and none of the other soldiers knew where he was. Jerry disappeared and searching for him yielded nothing. He seemed to have been wiped off the face of the earth.

A month passed and Jerry was still listed as missing, his story somehow leaked to the press and caught the eye of ufologists. In subsequent years, they repeatedly tried to unravel this strange tangle of events and understand what happened to Jeri Irwin.

One of the explorers, David Buer, somehow managed to get on the trail of Jerry. In his book "The Non-Returner - The Jerry Irwin Story: A Kidnapped UFO or a Covert Operation?" (No Return - the Gerry Irwin story - UFO Abduction or Covert Operation?) He described that in fact Jerry went into the forest, where he lived for some time as a savage, before the military found him.

At the same time, Jerry remembered practically nothing of what happened to him in 1959. After that, the military command urgently transferred Jerry Irwin to a base in Germany.

An interesting detail is that, despite problems with memory and behavior, he was not removed from service, but continued to be kept at a military base. It is possible that Jerry was secretly watched and kept "to himself", at least Buer was sure of it.

He also found information that in Germany Jerry continued to haunt strange moments of blackouts, and then Irwin's traces were completely lost when he was sent to some secret base in Austria. After that, Irwin was definitely never seen again, either alive or dead.
