In 1935, the corpse of a man was found in the mountains of Everest. In principle, nothing special, after all, tourists periodically die during hikes. What was surprising in this story was something completely different: the deceased was not a climber (he was without climbing equipment), but he found himself there, where you cannot get through without the appropriate equipment. How did he get there? It wasn’t blown away by the wind, in the end.

As it turned out, it was the body of a certain Maurice Wilson, a native of England. In 1934 he set out to conquer the highest point on the planet.

For many years before that, he trained according to the yogic method. Wilson decided to conquer the summit … "jumping": taking off from the ground in one place, he had to land in another, overcoming a considerable distance through the air, and do it regardless of gravity.

This is called levitation. Unfortunately, he was unable to make it to the top. But the fact that in the end he was found far away can serve as another point in favor of the existence of this strange phenomenon.

The word "levitation" comes from the Latin levis and is translated as "light". But, despite the name, understanding this process is by no means easy. Humanity has always strived to learn how to fly: according to legends, Hermes could, with the help of magic sandals, move to any part of the planet by air, the inhabitants of the East and Ancient Russia moved on a flying carpet.

The conquest of the sky by mechanical means is a great achievement. But maybe this is not the limit? Maybe no mechanical means are needed?

One of the basic physical laws in force on our planet is the force of gravity. This force affects all bodies without exception and is the basis of life, because without it there would be no atmosphere or oxygen. It is decisive for everything that is on our planet.

But levitation refutes this: a force arises that is able to withstand the force of gravity. It turns out that either levitation does not exist, or science cannot yet explain this phenomenon. This means that the question "is" or "not" is resolved at the level of "believe" or "do not believe". In order to answer these questions, you need to understand the essence of the process. Having highlighted the main features, we will get closer to this goal.

So, the presence of levitation presupposes the observance of three points:

1) the object rises into the air;

2) a force that compensates for gravity acts on it;

3) no mechanical means and devices are used during levitation.

Based on these properties, we can give the following definition: levitation is a process in which an object rises into the air (moves or hangs statically) contrary to all the laws of physics and common sense.

That is why all people can be divided into three categories: believers, neutral (they just did not think about this topic) and skeptics. The skeptic's position is clear: "Science does not know, I have not seen." The most positive side of this position is that there is no need to explain how it happens, because it is not. Neutrals don't need to think about levitation either.

But believers in levitation have a difficult time. After all, it is not enough to believe, you also need to explain (at least in your own words) what exactly you believe in. One of the points of view is geographic. There are places on the planet where something mysterious is happening. There are about 12 zones where physical laws are illogical. But still the main point of view is different: everything happens in the head. But what exactly?

Some scientists believe that the matter is in the nerve impulses that the human brain emits. A certain number of impulses creates psychic energy, which, in turn, forms a biogravitational field around the entire person.

So, in the middle of the XIX century. physicist Faraday proved that one of the most spectacular spectacles - table-turning - is the work of not only mediums.

Moreover, in the literal sense of this expression. Cutting is a process that takes place with the hands and expectations of the people sitting at the table. The source of motive power (Faraday proved this with the help of an indicator) is the minimum impulses emanating from the hands.

Those at the table are waiting for him to start spinning. Expectations take on a physical meaning, and the palms begin to emit small amounts of electrical energy. Despite the fact that it is visible only to precision instruments - a person does not notice it - the amount of energy of several people is enough for the furniture to move.

It is easy to see one pattern associated with the Levitants: most of them were very religious people. They spent many hours in prayer and lived as ascetics. And this applies to yogis, Christians, and even sectarian leaders.

The first few hours can be in the same position, striving for nirvana, and the second, like the third, forget themselves during prayer, only their object of worship is different. Therefore, everything happens in the head, which once again proves the limitless, but, alas, unexplored possibilities of gray matter.

It's no secret that religiosity can have different signs, depending on who you believe in. The Church, in particular the Catholic Church, was very ambivalent about the manifestation of levitation in people: someone possessed a divine gift, and someone became a sorcerer, and the Inquisition dealt with him.

The medieval Christian philosopher and theologian Thomas Aquinas believed that bodily matter obeys the Almighty. Man is no exception: every movement is the will of the Lord. If he allows, evil spirits can also control a person. That is, either God or demons owns a person, medieval thinkers and clergy believed.

The Roman Catholic Church defines levitation as being possessed by the devil. In the Middle Ages, people tied or with a stone around their necks were thrown into a river or lake - if a person drowned, then he was innocent, if he swam out, then he was an accomplice of Satan. This logic, strange at first glance, still has a reasonable basis: it has been experimentally proven that for levitation it is necessary to lower the weight of a person's body. Yes, weight is not a constant. Mediums knew how to reduce it to almost the minimum size.

Now, many Levitants have experienced the wrath or mercy of the Catholic Church. So, one of the most famous cases of levitation is the life of the Italian monk Giuseppe Deza (1603-1663).

A child who was sick from birth, he spent a lot of time in prayer and led an ascetic lifestyle. At 17, he became a Capuchin monk.

At 22, Deza joined the Franciscan Order (near the town of Copertino). He continued to pray intensely and often reached ecstasy. And then one day, in an ecstatic fit, Deza lifted himself off the ground, began to move in the air and landed in the altar of the monastery cathedral.

Then the miracle of levitation was performed several times, even Pope Urban VIII witnessed this; the head of the Catholic Church considered it a divine gift. After the approval of the Pope, there were constant flights in front of priests and influential people.

It is not surprising that Desa was interested in scientists, studies were carried out repeatedly. The famous physicist Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz was a participant in these experiments (as an observer), which may be an indicator of the recognition of levitation as an official science. One of the most interesting and controversial tricks of Deza was this: he sat on a thin branch of a tall tree, and the branch did not bend under the weight of the monk.

The most logical conclusion: during prayer, his weight greatly decreased. Several years after his death, Deza was canonized as Joseph of Copertino. In 1958, the Vatican declared him a saint, patron saint of astronautics.

History also remembers the negative characters of levitation. Here is one example: in 1906, a 16-year-old girl living in South Africa suddenly discovered these abilities in herself. She could rise to a height of one and a half meters and be in this position for several minutes.

But as soon as holy water fell on her body, the girl could no longer be in the air and fell. If we talk about women and levitation, then they were always under a closer look than men: primarily due to the fact that they are lighter in weight.

People of the Middle Ages believed that witches had the ability to levitate. To do this, they allegedly use a special witch's ointment made from killed newborn children and various herbs, as well as special devices for flying - a brush, a poker, a pitchfork, etc. Thus, witches travel and get to the Sabbath.

And let the reader decide for himself whether to believe it or not, the emphasis should be placed differently: if superstition exists, then some time ago (a year, a century, or even several centuries) there was a precedent. That is, it is very likely that one of the people who were popularly called witches and sorcerers could actually rise into the air.

And whether he did it himself with the help of levitation or utensils took off, that's a completely different story. At least it has not been scientifically proven that a broomstick smeared with a decoction of herbs can take off into the air.

The negative attitude of the church to levitation among people of non-Christian faith is not surprising. Usually, the beautiful half of humanity "got" more: most often it was women, according to the priests, who were in collusion with the evil one and therefore could conjure, including levitation.

However, not all women who know how to hang in the air were called witches. Some were even declared saints.

This happened with a nun named Teresa (Saint Teresa of Avila). She had an innate ability to levitate, moreover, she was not happy with God's gift.

For a long time, the woman asked the Almighty to deliver her from this gift. As a result, the flights stopped. But, nevertheless, 230 priests could see the miracle with their own eyes, and more than once. In 1565 Teresa wrote her autobiography, where, in particular, she tried to analyze the process of levitation.

She is one of the few who could be conscious while lifting the body into the air. The nun describes levitation as a blow to the head, after which you do not understand where you are, and then it seems that for some reason you are flying.

The fact that Teresa was able to control herself during levitation is more the exception than the rule. Not all people could not only remember what happened to them during levitation, but sometimes also understand that they were not on earth. So, in ancient India, yogis rose to a distance of 90 cm. Moreover, levitation for the Indians was not an end in itself, but only a consequence of mental meditation and a special breathing technique.

Scotsman Daniel Dunglas Hume (1833-1886), one of the most notorious individuals with the gift of levitation, was also in absolute consciousness during this process.

In his youth, when he discovered the gift of soaring in the air, Hume was frightened by his ability, but then he was able to master it consciously: he rose of his own accord.

Among the witnesses were Napoleon III, Alexander II, Mark Twain, W. Thackeray, A. K. Tolstoy and other prominent figures of the era. In Russia he was seen quite often: both of his wives were Russian by nationality. Hume could lift himself into the air, as well as lift any object (the weight did not matter: he even lifted furniture). There is a known case when he raised an incredulous officer into the air, who clung to a medium.

In 1868, according to witnesses, Hume flew out several times and flew into the windows located at the height of the third floor.

His personality was also very interested in people of science. During levitation, the medium Hume was able to maintain consciousness, record his feelings and talk about them, which added empirical value to research. He mentioned the "invisible power" that enveloped his legs. It is not surprising that the "flying Scotsman" became the object of interest of various scientists, in particular the chemist Williams Crookes.

Hume became a valuable find of the scientist: all other mediums could not repeat what the Scotsman did. As a result, it was proved that before levitation, his weight changed dramatically. This is probably what allowed Hume to lift himself up.

But the medium could lift anything into the air, regardless of weight. In addition, the scientist was amazed at Hume's ability to play a musical instrument without touching the strings or keys and being at a considerable distance from it.

So, the cases cited above confirm that levitation requires a special, on the verge of trance, state of the brain. It is not surprising that most of the Levitants known to mankind are religious and spent a lot of time in prayer and self-improvement, which allowed them to discover the hidden capabilities of their body.
