Last weekend, Mexican social media posted a series of photographs in which an adult woman is marrying a boy who looks no more than 10 years old.
At least this is exactly what it looked like in the photographs.
People were shocked by what they saw, and many versions appeared to explain the strange wedding. They talked about contractual marriage between families, about child trafficking, child abuse and all sorts of other things.
When journalists became interested in these photos, they found out all the ins and outs. The truth turned out to be much more tragic and at the same time touching in its own way.
As it turned out, on May 4 in the city of Haltyangis, Guerrero state, an unusual wedding really took place. But the boy in the photo is actually a 20-year-old boy named Jonothan.
Due to a rare developmental anomaly, Jonothan looks much younger than his age and is very stunted.
However, his childish appearance did not prevent him from finding "the love of his life", and his chosen one to connect her fate with him.
Their wedding was big and cheerful, it lasted two days, and among the guests were almost all the inhabitants of the village where they live. Photos from the wedding were initially posted on social networks with a detailed commentary about the age of the newlyweds, but after a few reposts, the comment was lost, which caused confusion.
