A fat worm removed from a Mexican teen's eye (Caution, shocking content 18+) - worm, parasite, eye

The 17-year-old Mexican went blind in one eye after a parasite settled in that eye. The worm was in his eye for at least three weeks, causing severe pain in the teenager and severely damaging the iris of the eye.

Doctors found out that it was a parasite that can be infected by eating raw fish, but how the worm got into the eye remained a mystery to doctors.

Below you can see a shocking video in which you can see a thick and short worm, freely "floating" and bending right under the lens of the eye. The video was filmed by ophthalmologists in one of the hospitals in Mexico City, where a teenager recently came with severe pain in the eye. The guy was immediately sent for surgery at the Conde de Valenciana Institute of Ophthalmologym.

In order to remove the worm, the surgeons had to remove the lens of the eye. Along the way, they discovered that the worm had made many holes in the iris and damaged the retina of the eye. Because of these injuries, a 17-year-old boy was inevitably blind in one eye.

Doctors said that the extracted worm belongs to trematodes (Digenea), a parasitic flatworm. Trematodes are small in size from a few centimeters to 1 millimeter. Trematodes are the causative agents of such a dangerous disease as opisthorchiasis, when people become infected by eating raw fish.

Usually, trematodes affect the internal organs (liver, intestines, genitourinary system), and not the eyes, which is why this case is classified as abnormal and doctors could not give an explanation for what caused the eye infection. However, they noticed that the boy was still lucky that the worm was removed in time, because it could penetrate into the brain.
