In the US state of North Carolina, a 35-year-old man discovered a "dinosaur-like" creature in an artificial Lake Norman, according to Fox News.

Wishing to remain anonymous, the man spoke about his discovery on the site CryptoZoology.com, which publishes messages about all sorts of strange events.

“I was on a boat with my friends,” the man said on the website. "We were in the center of the lake when we saw an extraordinary creature splashing in the water."

According to him, it was about ten feet (a little over three meters) and reminded him of the mythical "Loch Ness" monster. Friends did not have time to take photos, since the creature was on the surface for no more than a minute, and then disappeared into the water.

As noted by the TV channel, this is not the first case of meeting with a mysterious creature living in the waters of Lake Norman.

Lake Norman Monster

A lot of people reported encounters with a strange animal (or a group of animals) on Lake Norman, which makes the creature very frightening and extremely unusual, since this is not an ancient lake, but an artificial one and was created quite recently.

A suitable starting point for this water anomaly is the presence of a nuclear power plant at the top of the lake. Lake Norman was created in 1963 by damming the Catawba River at a place called Cavance Ford. The water spilled significantly more than 130 square kilometers, forming a coastline of about 835 km, with a depth in some places exceeding 30 meters.

This section of the river had a long history with the Catawba Indians, early settlers, along with many historical monuments from the time of the Revolution and the Civil War. Unfortunately, they are all under water now.

The nuclear power plant was brought into commercial operation in 1981. But the stories about the huge fish in the lake date back to an earlier period. In a nearby town during the 1970s, there was popular gossip about divers sinking to the bottom of the dam for repairs and vowing never to return after seeing larger fish swim past them.

But it seems that the largest number of sightings of the monster on the surface of the lake belongs to the period after the launch of the nuclear power plant. Could these creatures be radiation mutants of some kind? It is obvious that at least some radioactive substance, in some form, has leaked into the lake during the operation of the nuclear power plant.

It is known that a certain amount of effluent, treated or not, ended up in the smaller Lake Wylie, located below Lake Norman. This does not mean that there was negligence on the part of the energy company, but from a rational point of view, this is a likely scenario. This probability applies to all nuclear power plants near large bodies of water.

Hypotheses and observations

Hypotheses as to what the monster might be include an alligator, catfish, lake sturgeon, freshwater eel, and snakehead fish. Many believe that a monster cannot be an alligator, since a cold-blooded creature is not able to withstand cold winters.

Fish looks like a much more plausible explanation, as it is common knowledge in the vicinity of the lake that they can grow to very large sizes.

Below are brief descriptions of some of the monster encounters:

- A man filmed the lake with a camera and when he turned it off and was about to leave, he saw a creature with a large long neck 1.5 meters long at some distance.

“The two brothers, while fishing, heard splashes behind them and saw a monster the size of a shark with a huge black tail.

“This is Normie!” - the nickname given to the phenomenon of the cryptid - two women cried out as they watched him cross the lake on one snowy winter day.

- Two girls during night fishing caught something huge that pulled the rod into the water and then floated to the surface, showing its massive body.

- Case confirmed by parents and family members: Several friends were launching a boat when one of them disappeared under water and soon reappeared, mortally frightened by something long and slimy with prickly skin.

Seemingly genuine eyewitness accounts of this monster appear almost every year.

Other descriptions and encounters range from being struck in the water by something huge to creatures that look like large snakes with crocodile-like snouts. Some even reported seeing a monster much longer.

It is also interesting to note the very rare species of jellyfish that live in the waters of Lake Norman, proving that non-native species can really take root in it.

Is the Lake Norman monster a nuclear monster, like all those giant mutated ants, grasshoppers and people from sci-fi movies? Remember, yesterday's science fiction often becomes reality today.
