“Plato is my friend, but truth is dearer,” Aristotle once said about his teacher. These words were uttered by him about Plato's Atlantis, in the existence of which he did not believe. Modern orthodox historians and archaeologists share the opinion of Aristotle. And yet the search for her continues, although it would seem: "What is he to Hecuba, what is Hecuba to him?"

Ageless theme

Recently, the press reported that the Russian Society for the Study of Underwater Problems and Atlantis (ROIPA), together with the Cosmopoisk research association, are preparing a unique research project "Journey to Atlantis". His goal is to find traces of the legendary continent.

In general, the search for Atlantis began a long time ago, the first recorded mention of them dates back to the 50s of our era. With varying intensity, they continued from century to century, but a special interest in the disappeared continent arose after the First World War. Improved underwater technology awakened hope of success, and companies were formed in several countries to search for the homeland of the legendary Atlanteans. In the French newspaper "Figaro", for example, there was such a note: "A society for the study and exploitation of Atlantis has been created in Paris."

Grandiose project

A lot of publications are devoted to the problem of the disappeared land. Writers mercilessly exploit this topic, cinema and television constantly turn to it. And recently the most luxurious hotel of the season “Palm Atlantis” was opened in the UAE, built on the territory of an artificial “palm island” near Dubai. The highlight of the $ 1.5 billion project is one of the world's largest artificial ecosystems, inhabited by 65 thousand marine animals, which can be observed through the walls of a unique underwater labyrinth where the "ruins of a sunken civilization" rest.

The grandiose project is inspired by the enchanting legends of Atlantis and recreates the fabulous atmosphere of ancient myths: a majestic palace with a giant arch and towers crowned with bizarre domes with twisted spiers …

So, interest in Atlantis does not fade away, the search for it continues.
