In the 12th century, on the territory of Glastonbury Abbey in Somerset, England, a huge coffin was dug, in which two skeletons rested: one of the most common size, and the second reached a length of almost three meters

When we look at the evidence and reality of the existence of giants in the past, one example that has survived the centuries is the discovery of the so-called "Glastonbury Giant".

This skeleton was excavated back in 1190 by order of King Henry II, after the monks "calculated" that the legendary King Arthur was buried in this very place.

On the site where the ruins of Glastonbury Abbey (Somerset, England) are now located, Christian monks have lived from about the 8th century AD. But the connection with King Arthur arose much later, around the 12th century. Then the monks who studied the ancient chronicles made a statement that it was here that the mythical Avalon is located - the land of the Immortals, into which, according to legend, the coffin with Arthur's body was taken away.

And if Glastonbury is Avalon, then it is here that you need to look for Arthur's coffin, which was started. And when the workers began to dig between two ancient stone columns, they quickly stumbled upon a large cross.

The inscription was engraved on the cross: "HIC JACET SEPULTUS INCLYTUS REX ARTURUS IN INSULA AVALLONI", which translates as "Here is the burial place of the famous King Arthur on the island of Avalon."

It became clear that the site had been correctly chosen and the workers began to dig further in excitement. When they dug the ground to a depth of 16 feet (4.5 meters), they found a huge wooden coffin, hollowed out of the trunk of a mighty old oak tree.

Two human skeletons were found inside the coffin. One of them reached a length of almost 3 meters, and next to it lay a skeleton of normal height. It has been suggested that if the giant skeleton is the remains of King Arthur, then the second skeleton belongs to his legendary wife, Queen Guinevere.

For almost a hundred years, the skeletons of Arthur and Guinevere were in the abbey, on display, but then it was decided to bury them in the ground again. A special place was chosen for this - right in front of the altar and the reburial ceremony took place in the presence of King Edward I.

Since then, 8 centuries have passed and Glastonbury Abbey has long fallen into disrepair and now only the ruins of the outer walls remain. At the place where King Arthur was allegedly reburied and now there is a special mark in the form of a rectangle and a poster with the inscription that this is the tomb of King Arthur. But there is no other evidence that this is the place.

Therefore, it is often believed that this is a fake grave, especially since there are enough of those who think that it should be excavated and the found remains to be investigated. And that the real place of reburial is in the strictest confidence.

Some people express the idea that the reports of the discovery of the giant skeleton were a late fiction, but much indicates that such an event really took place. In particular, there are records of the British historian Girald of Cambria (1146-1223), who personally examined the massive bones in 1194 and declared them authentic.
