It all began when the Marlborough slaughterhouse, owned by a farmer, became the property of the state mental hospital. And the farmer did not like it very much

In the early twentieth century, the Marlborough slaughterhouse in New Jersey was owned by an ordinary farmer named Allen. He grew fodder crops on his land, which he fed his pigs, and when they gained the necessary weight, he slaughtered in the slaughterhouse and sold meat.

The Allen family owned the land for generations, but in 1928, New Jersey authorities decided to build a mental hospital here. They rudely declared to the farmer that “it was yours, it became ours,” and then they took everything away under the pretext that he had occupied state plots.

The fields that were previously owned by the farmer are now growing grain and vegetables for patients and staff of the psychiatric clinic. To say that Allen was furious is to say nothing.

He tried to interfere with the activities of the hospital staff. For a while, Allen was seen wandering through his former fields and showering curses and threats on all the hospital workers who came into his sight. And when officials hung the lock on his house, he repeatedly tore it down and continued to live there.

When the clinic's management eventually called the police and they dragged the actively resisting Allen away, the man shouted that he vows brutal revenge on all the clinic staff and those who dared to encroach on his land.

In the end, the farmer went mad and soon found himself in the same mental hospital that he opposed. According to legend, Allen spent many years there and at first was violent and continued to pour out threats, but then one day he became completely quiet and calm, as if he had come to some important decision for himself.

Shortly thereafter, he was deemed safe enough for society and allowed to leave the orphanage. He also won the trust of the orderlies and eagerly began to carry out work in the garden and greenhouses of the institution. He even worked with pigs and cows, which were bred here for the needs of the hospital.

No one of the officials was surprised or suspicious of such a sudden change, because many still remembered that Allen was once a farmer and worked on these lands, which were then his property.

But one day something strange happened. In the evening, when the orderlies, as usual, began to collect all the patients who were allowed to work in the fields, it turned out that Allen was not among them. They began to look for him and looked into every crack, but to no avail. Allen seemed to dissolve into this landscape and became a part of it.

This is where the quiet part of the legend ends and the nightmare begins. In fact, Allen never forgot how he was treated and was plotting revenge all this time.

Several weeks have passed since Allen disappeared, it was assumed that he just fled and he began to gradually forget. The life of the psychiatric institution went on as usual again. But then, one after another, the patients of the clinic began to report that terrible screams of animals were heard from the premises of the old slaughterhouse at night.

Naturally, no one worked in the slaughterhouse at night, so at first it was generally accepted that these were only auditory hallucinations of mentally ill people. But the number of patients hearing these terrible screams became more and more and these sounds frightened them so much that they began to have tantrums and nervous breakdowns.

Only then did the management of the clinic call the police and they examined the premises of the slaughterhouse, not finding any stranger or something strange in it. The hospital management again tried to start considering all this as just delirium of the insane, but then it turned out that several pigs, sheep and calves had disappeared from the sheds.

And then one morning the workers who came to the slaughterhouse saw a terrible sight. The bloody corpses of sheep, pigs and calves were scattered throughout the room, and on the wall there were inscriptions in blood "I see you" and "Everyone will die tonight."

The workers immediately notified the hospital management of the incident and it was decided to leave an armed guard in the slaughterhouse overnight. On the same night, the loud screeching of dying pigs was again heard from the direction of the slaughterhouse, but since the guard did not call the police, it was decided that everything was in order.

The next morning, when workers came to the slaughterhouse, they did not see the bodies of animals and bloody graffiti anywhere, so they decided at first that everything was in order and the attacker did not come. However, they also did not find the guard.

They called him, they were looking for him, but he did not respond. At some point, one of the workers saw that a thin trickle of blood was flowing from somewhere on the floor of the room and flowing into the sewer grate. He called the others and they went to where this blood was flowing.

The trickle led them to a separate room where there was a carcass freezer. It flowed out from under the locked door.

One can only try to imagine all the horror that was in the minds of the workers when they opened this door. There, suspended from a hook and soaked in blood, hung the body of the night guard. He was in his clothes, but his head was severed, and in its place was the severed head of a pig. Inside this pig's head lay the severed head of a guard.

On the walls of the freezer, there were many inscriptions in blood, which were chaotic delusions of revenge, greed and pigs.

They tried to quietly hush up this terrible incident, but the staff of the Marlboro clinic could not hold back for a long time and soon the information leaked to the side. No one was ever caught, convicted or even accused of this atrocity, but everyone understood whose hands it was.

The Marlborough Psychiatric Clinic, and besides this terrible legend, was an extremely unpleasant place. Here, various cruel violence against patients was constantly committed, the sanitary conditions were extremely poor, rats and cockroaches ran everywhere, and the walls of the wards were covered with mold.

Patients routinely escaped from the hospital, were beaten and poorly fed, and staff scolded over low wages and poor working conditions. In 1998, the clinic was finally closed.
