National park Hawking Hills (Hocking Hills) in Ohio is an incredibly beautiful place. There is a large waterfall, as well as a cave with a huge entrance, picturesque dense forests and rocks. But probably somewhere there is also a portal to another dimension or a parallel world.
This story was told by Danny, 29, a resident of Pennsylvania. In September 2008, he and his girlfriend Siera went on a day tour of the park.
“During my life I have been in several very strange situations and this incident is one of them. I would very much like to share this story to find out if it happened to other people in this park. In September 2008, early in the morning, it barely rose sun, me and Siera came to Hawking Hills Park.
It was a nice and very warm late summer day and we decided to go hiking for the whole day and have a great weekend together. There are several hiking trails in Hawking Hills Park, mainly around a large cave, waterfalls and along a wide stream. I repeat once again that the day was very pleasant, sunny, there were almost no clouds in the sky, in general, just a magnificent day. This is an important detail.
At first we walked back and forth from one route to another, then we went one by one and soon realized that we could not go further - the path was washed out by water, so we had to choose a new path, for which we had to cross the main road, on one side of which in the distance stood the high tower of the park's rangers with the searchlight on at the top, it also served as a fire tower.
We met many people, travelers like us, including many groups of young people. On the way, we were a little distracted from the road, buried in our smartphones and showing each other the photos that we took days earlier in the same park. This is not the first time we have taken walks here.
It started at about noon, we just left the forest and walked further along the trail. We noticed that the fire tower that could be seen behind the trees was as if in a strange cloudy film, in the air we also smelled an unusual acrid smell, the source of which and its nature we could not determine. The spotlight on the tower turned very dark, and then a lot of flies appeared everywhere around us.
We continued to walk along the path, commenting on all these oddities around us, and then we turned onto some path, the existence of which we did not even suspect. She led us straight to the fire tower, and then to a forest of sparse trees.
At that moment, we realized that we had not seen people around for a long time, we were alone in this part of the forest. And then we felt ourselves not only separated from other groups of travelers, but literally isolated from their world. It was a very unusual feeling.
We also suddenly felt very cold. The day was warm and we were dressed very lightly, but when we entered this forest with sparse trees, cold enveloped us. It was a very sensitive and sharp drop in temperature, we literally began to shiver from the cold. But we continued our way along this path and my friend Siera noticed that it was getting darker around.
We walked and walked and the forest should have ended long ago, we knew that this area was small, and soon we had to go to the edge. But the forest did not end and we could not find a single landmark to understand where we are.
In a panic, my friend took out her phone to check our location by GPS, but her smartphone's battery was suddenly low. I pulled out mine, but it was also close to a complete depletion of the charge, and it also said that it was impossible to establish a signal with a mobile network.
It got even darker, we all walked and walked, and then we noticed that it was not only cold and dark around, but also unusually quiet. The only rustles in this forest were from our movements when we stepped on leaves and branches, as well as the sounds of our breathing. Siera was very scared, I was also very scared. Siera said that this was something quite far from the usual situation and I agreed with her, besides, I felt that there was something else and tried to understand what it was, but could not.
We walked further along the trail, and when we descended from a small hill, it became even darker and everything around seemed plunged into twilight. It got colder. We finally got scared and just ran to the side. The strangest thing is that throughout this entire journey, the idea never occurred to us to turn back.
We ran at random to the side of the hill and saw two large bushes on the side of it. They stood so that there was a passage between them, as if it were something like a gate. And as soon as we slipped through the bushes, something completely unusual happened.
As if someone immediately turned on the light and summer heat. We were almost blinded by the bright sunlight, the cold disappeared and everything around was filled with the sounds of nature. It's as if you ran out of a gloomy and cold dark building into a brightly lit warm street.
And we immediately recognized the place around us, we were standing near the area called Old Man's Cave, this is the place where there is a large waterfall and a wide rocky cliff in the shape of the letter U. There are always a lot of people there.
We turned around to see where we came from and saw the very two bushes, but the area behind them was not at all like the gloomy forest in which we had been walking for so long. There was the usual warm and sunlit grove.
But our skin still kept a gloomy damp cold, and when we got our phones, they worked, there was a connection and showed the time. It was 4 o'clock in the afternoon. We wandered along that strange path for 4 hours.
We tried to explain everything logically. Maybe while we were in the forest, a thundercloud flew in and therefore it was dark and cold there. But then Siera and I walked back and forth between the bushes and there was just the same warm grove, we did not find anything from that forest and our tracks were not there either. We also did not find the path along which we walked, as if it never existed.
And when we got to the fire tower, its searchlight was clean and bright, without any dark filters, there was no pungent smell either.
We don't know what happened to us, but it was creepy. Later that evening, when Siera and I were having lunch at a restaurant, I told her that maybe we had visited the Fairy Kingdom. I said it jokingly, but I noticed that we were lucky that we were allowed to get out of there."
