On the edge of the Colorado plateau and partly in Arizona, there seems to be a particularly aggressive monster that looks like a large, tall and very feral man. And he has been seen here for at least the last two centuries

Along the northern part of the US state of Arizona, there is a remote escarpment that extends 200 miles from Yavapai County to the New Mexico border and also forms the southern edge of the Colorado Plateau in Arizona.

This escarpment is called Mogollon rim (Ring of Mogollon). It is a picturesque barren wasteland with towering plateaus that resemble a typical Wild West landscape.

The Mogollon Rim is a mixture of steep slopes, canyons and the vast pine forests of Ponderosa, home to many unique species of birds, plants and animals. And for almost two centuries, they have seen a mysterious beast there.

In appearance, this creature most often resembled a typical yeti - its height is much higher than 2 meters, it is covered with long matted hair of a reddish-brown color and its face looks like at once a human and a monkey. It also has an incredibly powerful unpleasant odor, which eyewitnesses have described as "a mixture of dead fish, skunk stench, unwashed body odor, decaying peat and turtle musk."

However, it seems much more aggressive than any Yeti. And even cruel. It can attack tourists, throwing stones at them or pursuing them, and strangely mutilated bodies of animals are often found in this place, which is attributed to the same monster.

You can also recognize his presence nearby by the piercing creepy cries and screams.

Throughout the 19th century, there were reports of large and vicious humanoid beasts, or bestial humans, from the Mogollon Rim region and its environs, including Prescott, Williams, Alpine and Clifton. There is also information that the very first settlers in these places met him.

However, written information about his observation appeared only in 1903, when a note about a man's meeting with this monster got into local newspapers. The creature was spotted near the Grand Canyon by an eyewitness named Stevens and its story was recorded by Williams News and The Arizona Republic.

Stevens stumbled upon the monster when he sailed here in a boat and then went about his hunting business in the forest. As soon as he walked away from the shore, he suddenly saw something large and humanoid ahead that hunched over the torn body of a cougar.

β€œI saw a man with long gray hair and a matted beard that reached down to his knees, his face was brown and deeply tanned with fiery green eyes. He was not wearing any clothes at all, and he had sharp claws on his fingers, several centimeters long. Gray hair covered almost all of his body, and where there were almost none, patches of dirty skin were visible."

Frightened by the sight of this strange creature, which seemed to drink the blood of a murdered cougar, Stevens froze in place, trying not to make a sound, but then decided to hide behind a large stone. This movement was heard by the monster and immediately jumped up to his full two-meter height.

The monster let out a loud scream and then swung a large, gnarled stick. Stevens broke down and dashed away as quickly as he could. In a few seconds he ran to the river bank, where he left his boat, and then he felt relatively safe and turned around and shouted several curses towards the creature.

The creature immediately started screaming and waving its stick wildly again, but then again bent over the body of the cougar and began to drink its blood or eat its meat.

An even more famous case occurred in 1940, when cryptozoologist Don Davis was still young and went on a hike in Tonto Creek with a group of Boy Scouts. In the middle of the night, strange sounds woke him and the other teenagers, forcing them to look out of the tent. They saw something large wandering among the tents and rummaging in their backpacks, and the air smelled strong and unpleasant.

When Davis decided to get out of his tent, he almost immediately ran into this creature.

β€œIt was huge, its eyes were deeply set and seemed expressionless. There was almost no hair on the face, but thick sideburns grew on the sides. His chest, shoulders and arms were very large and muscular, especially the shoulders, each 16 inches in diameter (40 cm) no less. I could see that his whole body was hairy. His face and head seemed square, and his chin was just as square."

Frightened, Davis climbed back into his tent and huddled there, hoping that the creature would soon leave. And so it happened, soon the monster disappeared into the night and they never saw him again.

Since then, this creature has been observed only sporadically and mainly in the area of the Apache reservation. However, in 2006, a lot of people began to see the creature at once. Local police were inundated with eyewitness calls. They talked about a monster with huge arms and large legs, which walks with very wide strides.

According to Lieutenant Ray Burnett, the residents of the reservation saw this creature looking through their windows several times. And when they called the police, they were firmly convinced that it was not a hallucination. The police believed these people, since they were not drunkards and pranksters, but reliable and respected people on the reservation.

One of the recent sightings of the mysterious creature was published on the Cryptozoology News website. A 28-year-old woman named Estevez will encounter a monster while walking on the Canyon Point hiking trail on the Rim of the Mogollon. She saw a massive creature bending over and drinking from a puddle.

"It was on its knees and drank water from a puddle. It was drinking noisily, snorting like a pig, so at first I thought it was a wild pig. Just too hairy. But then it turned its head in my direction and looked right at me. And then I scared.

I read that when you meet a dangerous large animal, you need to show that you are bigger and louder, and then the animal will leave. So I started making noise and moving my arms up and down. And then the creature got up from all fours to two legs. His body was covered with grayish hair and he looked like a troll from a fairy tale.

He was ugly. The face is like a human, without hair, but gnarled. Brownish-red eyes, thick nose, small lips. No facial expression, no emotion. Then it ran away and moved like a human. Since then, I have not walked here alone."
