Ghosts try to use the possibilities of technological progress to communicate with the world of the living. In the days of audio cassettes, their voices could be recorded on magnetic tape, and in the era of landline telephones, on an answering machine

Since the ghost stories have permeated the cultures of peoples around the world, they have gradually changed and adapted to scientific progress. If earlier phantoms and ghosts were met mainly at night in old castles or in cemeteries, now they get into a photo or video, they can call by phone and leave messages on an answering machine.

Message for Judy

Our first story was published on the Week in Weird website and happened to a woman named Judy. According to Judy, since childhood, she grew up in a "haunted house", where there were mysterious steps, squeaks, voices, poltergeist and so on.

The epicenter of paranormal activity in Judy's house was in the bathroom. There she herself often heard the voices of invisible people who mocked her or simply angrily shouted her name "Judii!", "Juuuudii!"

Once there was so much paranormal activity in the house that Judy's parents even called the priest to drive evil spirits out of the house. And it helped, the house calmed down. However, as Judy grew up, she suddenly faced something very creepy again. Something left a message on the answering machine of her landline phone at home.

It started when Judy came home in the evening and saw a message on her answering machine about several messages left for her. She pressed the button to listen to the first message, thinking that her friends were calling, and suddenly heard frightening sounds.

Something on the other end of the phone was mumbling indistinctly, but the words could not be made out due to strong static noises. It was only when Judy listened to this message several times that she began to separate the voice from the background noise and decipher the words. It was a man's voice and he seemed to be away from the phone, while he was constantly muttering her name - "Judy, Judy, Judy" …

Then Judy began to make out other voices, they were even quieter, but she made out how they say "Hide", "Go to the house" and "Hurry up." They seemed to warn her of something sinister that could harm her. All this greatly frightened Judy, although she considered herself already accustomed to the paranormal.

Then it turned out that Judy's mother had been at home all day and at the same time she had not heard someone calling on the phone. Judy also asked her daughter if she had recorded something on the answering machine to play a prank on her mother, but her daughter denied everything.

This strange message (unfortunately, it was not posted on the network) lasted 50 seconds, and throughout the message a male voice pronounced Judy's name, stretching the vowels. Then they tried to process it with a computer program to remove unnecessary noise, and then the voice began to sound even more ominous.

The evil energy of an ex-girlfriend

The following story was posted on Reddit. This happened in the 1990s, when the author of the story was young and lived in a rented apartment with his ex-girlfriend.

Their relationship by that time was already on the verge, they constantly swore violently. He described this girl as a "psycho", and after another big quarrel, he packed up his things and left the apartment for good. He also took a landline telephone with an answering machine.

After a while, this girl found out that he began to meet with another and began to call him and leave messages on the answering machine one after another. In total, she recorded about 80 (!) Messages in which she reprimanded her ex-boyfriend everything that she thinks about him. When he started listening to these messages, he and a friend could listen to the very end.

After that, he tried in every way to avoid his ex, and deleted her messages from the answering machine. And then something mysterious began to happen to his answering machine. When he received regular messages from friends, scraps of messages from his ex-girlfriend suddenly began to fit into those messages. Deleted messages.

And these were not just random scraps from the messages of the ex, as if some technical glitch just happened in the answering machine. These were the most frightening parts of these messages - all of her threats, all of her curses, all of her insults.

These scrappy messages of varying lengths were wedged into regular messages from friends anywhere - at the beginning, middle, or at the end. It happened by chance, not every day, and not even every week. But regularly. Sometimes it took a few weeks when the answering machine worked properly, but then malicious messages from the ex were again wedged into messages from friends.

"I deleted all the messages, changed the voice greeting, put in new batteries, and then did a factory reset. But the problem persisted. So in the end I just threw it away. And yes, I'm not schizophrenic, I am not inclined to hear voices and the like. This incident was unique in my life, "- wrote the author.

Great-grandmother called after death

The following story happened to an unnamed person a week after the death of his great-grandmother. That day he was visiting his grandparents' house, they talked, everything was as usual.

Suddenly their landline phone rang and for some reason the subscriber's name did not appear on it, only the numbers 000-000-000. My grandfather joked that he didn’t know anyone with that name, and then the phone showed that this caller had left a message on his answering machine.

“I turned on this message and for the first 10 seconds nothing was heard, there was only a strong static noise. And then the noise stopped and we heard a woman’s voice that said“I love you.”Then there was interference again and the message ended.

We immediately looked at each other, but said nothing. Each of us knew whose voice it was, it was the voice of my great-grandmother. As proof that this really was a message from her, I can say that great-grandmother never said such words to anyone during her lifetime, it was not in her nature. But here she may have made an exception."

Father's voice

The following story was posted on the Ghost Village website by a woman named Margaret Hawke, who lives in Knoxville, Iowa. She claims to have received a message from her deceased father.

This happened a few months after his death. Margaret left the room for only a few minutes, and when she entered it again, she saw a new message icon on her answering machine on her landline phone.

Margaret does not indicate what exactly her father's voice told her, which she heard in this message, however, she writes that she immediately realized that it was her father and when she heard his voice, she almost smelled him.

At the same time, when she let her husband and others listen to this recording, they could not hear anything on it except static interference.

"For some reason, they can't hear the voice. I think it took a lot of energy for my father to call me and comfort me that he is still with me. Now I still miss him, but now I am talking to him, as if he was by my side. He proved that he still exists."

Messages from a colleague

The last strange case of a call "from another world" in this article differs from the previous ones in that this record was posted on the Internet.

This story happened in 1994, when paranormal researcher George Mick was contacted by his former colleague Konstantin Raudive. Former in the sense that by that time he had died long ago.

Mick and Raudive were at one time prominent explorers of the Electronic Voices (EVP) phenomenon, where the voices of ghosts somehow ended up on cassette tapes. Their research was interrupted in 1974 by the tragic death of Raudive.

But in 1994, Mick began suddenly to receive messages from the late Raudive on his answering machine, email, and even fax. As if Raudive was trying with all his might to prove that from the afterlife it is really possible to "get through" to the world of the living.

By this link there is an audio recording of one of these voicemail messages from Raudive. His voice sounds eerie, a little automatic and without emotion.
